Lightsurgery Social Design

Who

“Building a presence online is not just about a good look. It’s just as much about SEO, SMO, a Social Network presence as well, and having someone that understands all of these areas and can simplify the process is very important.”

Lightsurgery Social Design is the long running freelance website showcasing collaborative and independent work by me, Justin Goring (AKA ju5tin). I specialise in Social business strategy, community and technical management, online UX design and development.

I am currently responsible for the design, development and management of online social communities and help shape the social strategy for the whole of Comet Plc’s social media real estate.

My professional interests and experience extends to the development of semantic coding and HTML5, website design, online marketing including SEO and SMO, and commercial activities with a strong customer focus.

I am currently involved in more than 15 social media applications and community driven projects, both in a professional and personal capacity.

My background and knowledge of Social Media stems from over 10 years working as a Front End Developer / Designer in London.

Prior to joining the forward thinking team at Comet I worked at Nature Publishing Group and helped develop the sister publication community blogs, as well as Nature Network, Nature China, and Nature History.

Specialties

I specialise in Social business design, Social media development and strategy, Community engagement and management; and I have a professional understanding of UI, UX, W3C & WHATWG accessibility standards and HTML (V4 Strict and HTML5).
I hand code using tools like Text Mate, and am proficient in the usual designer suites such as Photoshop, Fireworks and Illustrator.

I studied Visual Culture BA at Falmouth College of Arts, Cornwall before moving to London in 1999 to be a web designer.

“I beieve a modern website should not create any extra work for the client but instead should simplify the day-to-day process, like a tool.”
