Here’s a list a apps and tools I currently use with Twitter and would recommend.
- TweetDeck – I have this running all the time (alongside Twhirl below) as a way of collecting and viewing categorised tweets from lots of diferent types of people. Fantastic for searches, and trending topics, as well as organising who you follow.
- Twhirl - IMO the desktop client with the most balance between usability, looks, and functions. Twurl is free program that lets you view and respond to Twitters from followers, or global – best for multiple accounts, when a quick check and send is what you need.
- Qwitter – informs you when a someone unfollows you :(
- FriendOrFollow – find out who’s not following you back by entering your Twitter username.
- LastFM Love/Twitter Mashup – “any track that you ‘love’ on lastfm will automatically generate a tweet from you that has the track’s artist and name, as well as a link to it so your followers can give it a listen.”
- Tweetake – back up your friends, followers and Tweets. Enter your username and password to download as a CSV.
- Twitter Theme Gallery – a nice theme site for customising your Twitter page.
- Better Twitter Replies – Greasemonkey script that nests your Twitter replies.
- Twittelator – client for the iPhone/iPod Touch… My personal fave.
- twitabit – another service that allows you to post Tweets even when Twitter is down.
- Is Twitter Down? – having problems with Twitter? (Stupid question?) Check this site to see if it’s just you or if Twitter is down.
- Twitzu – create an event (including location info and description) send it out to your Twitter followers and receive RSVPs.
- GoTwit – search plugin for Firefox, lets you search for Twitter users and takes you straight to their Twitter page. A very useful shortcut. From twtooltrack.
- Delete Twitter Messages – Greasemonkey script that allows you to delete all your sent and received direct messages at once. Useful if you have your messages redirected and manage them in some other format (e.g. email). I suppose this only gets really useful if you are receiving a lot of direct messages..
- Twitpress - WordPress plugin that alerts your Twitter followers when you have posted a new entry to your blog.
- Live Twitting – keep your conference/event Tweets together. Follow @livetwitting and use the following commands (direct message or reply can be used): “d livetwitting ON Conf. Name # Session Title” – to start your conference Tweets; “d livetwitting PAUSE” – to pause and Tweet about other stuff; “d livetwitting RESUME” – er, to resume of course; “d livetwitting OFF” – for when it’s time to go home. More commands and examples are available here. Your Tweets will be collected on one page, with RSS feed available.
- Twitter Search – A search engine for Twitter users.
- Foamee – For when you positively, gots to buy someone a drink.
- TwitDir – A very good search engine for Twitter blogs.
- Twittervision – Ace mashup of Twitter and Goggle Maps (also available as an iPhone App).
- Some thing I missed? Get in touch.
